Affinity Group Inc. Acquires Campground Guidebook Company
American Guide Services Inc. of Port Angeles, Wash., was purchased for an undisclosed sum Aug 1 2006.
Owned by the same family for more than 30 years, American Guide Services publishes guest guides for campgrounds and recreational vehicle parks. Published in varying sizes, the guides contain directions to local attractions and businesses, as well as maps of parks and nearby areas, said Jo Daquino, Affinity's multimedia vice president.
The promotional products, including rack cards, brochures, mailers and post cards, are designed to attract guests to campgrounds and get them to stay longer. Daquino called the acquisition a good one for privately held Affinity.
"It fits really well with what we do," Daquino said. "We publish the leading campground directories in the market. This is a way for us to reach out even farther within a market that is serviced by campgrounds and to let our customers, the people using the campgrounds, know about what's going on in the area."
Affinity's Multimedia Division publishes annual directories, monthly regional magazines, specific-interest books and online publications all targeting different consumers in the recreational vehicle and camping market.
The company also publishes two of the leading national directories, Woodall's North American Campground Directory and Trailer Life RV Parks, Campgrounds & Services Directory, Daquino said.
American Guide Services also has an Internet division that provides campgrounds with Web design, Web site hosting, online reservation forms and e-commerce services.
Affinity Group companies serve the needs of camping enthusiasts and recreational vehicle travelers nationwide, Daquino said. The company's most well-known brands are: Good Sam Club, Camp Club USA, Camping World, Coast to Coast Resorts, Golf Card International and Ehlert Publishing.
